Sudan

The University of Khartoum is a prestigious and well-known public university located in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan. Established in 1902, it is the oldest and one of the largest universities in Sudan and the broader region of North Africa. The university has played a crucial role in the country’s educational and intellectual development and has produced many prominent figures in various fields. It includes twenty faculties one of which is faculty of Economics and Social Studies (the direct project partner) in addition to Eight research institute. The university is known for fostering an environment of free expression, and it has been a catalyst for the country’s development in multi-dimensional aspects.

The Centre for Economic, Legal, and Social Studies (CEDEJ-Khartoum) is part of the CEDEJ network, a consortium of research centers studying economic, legal, and social issues in North Africa and the Middle East. CEDEJ Khartoum has a focus on Sudan and the surrounding region. It has had a relationship with the Faculty of Economic and Social Studies at the University of Khartoum since the 1990s to support Sudanese and foreign researchers with conducting research in Sudan. The center engages in individual and collaborative research projects and engages with a range of stakeholders to contribute to public debate and to influence policy.

Darfur Development and Reconstruction Agency (DDRA) in Sudan

DDRA was established in 1991 by a group of concerned Darfuris who aimed to raise awareness about the impending conflict. Now a fully registered national organization, DDRA was based in Khartoum until the April 2023 war. Over the years, it has undertaken projects on natural resource management, community peace, livelihood promotion, food security, and capacity building. DDRA addressed urgent needs in emergencies. DDRA has been implementing projects in different parts of Darfur, including with displaced persons and returnees.

India

The Institute for Human Development (IHD), established in 1998, is an Indian, non-profit, independent research institute based in New Delhi. Designated by the Indian Council of Social Science Research as an’ ICSSR Category Institute’, IHD focuses on multidisciplinary research in areas such as economics, sociology, demography, public health, education, and the environment. Its research projects aim to contribute to evidence-based policy recommendations. IHD publishes a bi-annual peer reviewed, multi-disciplinary journal, The Indian Journal of Human Development (IJHD).

Jan Swasthya Sahyog (JSS) (People’s Health Support Group) is an Indian non-profit organization established in 1996 by dedicated healthcare professionals. JSS operates a rural hospital in Ganiyari, Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh, along with a rural health programme in the surrounding villages. JSS has a multidisciplinary team who specialize in technical areas such as health systems and financing, policy analysis, epidemiology, clinical research, nutrition, biostatistics, and demography. The aim is to use the research findings to effect best practices and change at the policy level.

UK

The Food Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to addressing food-related issues and promoting a sustainable and healthy food system. It was established in 2015 with a mission to influence food policy and help shape the national food environment in the UK. The Food Foundation focuses on research, advocacy, and campaigns to bring attention to important food issues and drive positive change. Some of the key areas they work on include food poverty, food insecurity, healthy eating, sustainable food production, and food system resilience.
