Tamer and Susanne presented a paper at the IDS conference (from 15-17 September 2025) on ‘The Politics of Digitalising Food Assistance in Sudan’s Crisis, and its Effect on the Food Security of Marginalised Populations’. The presentation shared findings of constraints to digital inclusion in different parts of Sudan, such as limited or no internet or banks, and of undocumented citizens.  They linked this with the wider political economy of war and aid, including the benefits to merchants, the monopolies of certain banks and their regional connections. Susanne also participated in a panel discussion on: ‘Protecting the gains, how social protection can support livelihoods and growth in crisis’ (which was livestreamed:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmlSW5DKD_g), and chaired a panel on: Informality and Displacement in Urban settings.
