The team organised a panel on ‘The politics of food and technology in changing global and local crises’ at the conference of the International Humanitarian Studies Association in Istanbul (15-17 October). We presented papers on the project country case studies (Sudan, India, UK). Overall, there were 6 papers and two discussants at the panel, where we discussed the politics of digital food assistance, including the effects of internet shutdowns, the absence of data, and the role of biometrics. Furthermore, we had papers on middle- and high-income countries such as India and the UK, as well as low income countries such as Sudan and Ethiopia. On behalf of the team, Susanne also presented a paper on ‘digital food assistance as a form of colonialism’ in another panel.
