From 16-19 July 2024, Sathya and Susanne participated in a conference in Amsterdam organised by the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST) and the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S).  Sathya presented a co-authored paper on the digitalisation of agriculture in India: arguing that although small and marginal farmers have not been prominent in the protests against new farm laws that introduce digitalisation, they would experience a greater negative impact. This presentation led to a lively discussion on the role of international companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Google and how digital technologies potentially reinforce the corporate food regime.  India is at the forefront of digital agriculture experimentation.  Issues of data sovereignty also featured, but little is as yet known about the actual effect of digitalisation on farmers and others of the digitalisation of food assistance. This is where our project will contribute to the body of knowledge on digitalisation.
